Staged Implementation
The overriding goal is to create a program that is not around for one or two years, but rather for ten, twenty years and more. With this in mind the project will be implemented in two initial stages:
Stage 1
Covering the first 12 months, this will focus on starting small and focusing on one geographical area, developing the basis for future sustainable growth throughout the Thika community. This time will be utilised for bringing volunteers on board, providing initial training and experience of the program content, creation of initial partnerships with youth and community based organisations and groups, and planning in more detail the long term goals and implementation plan for the program. While the impact and benefits to the targeted children and community from the football and life skills program will be immediate, this stage is as much about creating a solid foundation from which to grow as it is about immediate measurable benefits. With a fairly low initial start up budget this stage ensures that longer term funding by donors when sought is most effectively utilised and assessed. The budget outlined below covers this stage.
Stage 2
Covering the following 4-5 years, this stage will see the implementation of a complete youth sporting and community development program created from the research gathered on similar projects, the various stakeholders related community development experience, as well as ? and perhaps most importantly of all ? the experience gathered from Stage 1 of the project by all participants. While there are many ideas from other projects and from various stakeholders that have been utilised in the initial planning of this project, there will be nothing more invaluable for longer term sustainable planning and growth than the first hand experience garnered from the initial 12 month period.
