First youth referee and coaching courses completed

May 03 2007

The first stage of our planned two year path to becoming national accredited referees and coaches for the youth of Thika has been completed, with a total of 6 referees and 9 coaches completing relevant workshops in the two disciplines. The feedback from both groups was very positive, and they are all looking forward to the next stage of training.

The programs for both referees and coaches are an important aspect of one of MYI’s core objectives: to raise the playing skills of the young footballers of Thika. While first and foremost we want to provide the opportunity for ALL kids to enjoy the benefits of playing football, we also want to ensure that those who have the ability are offered the chance to excel and achieve all that their talent may allow. One of the essential aspects of this is, of course, that the receive good quality coaching from a young age, along with being able to compete in games that allow them to play without fear of injury. The MYI referee and coach training programs will go along way to addressing these current failings within the local community, and help to provide the optimum environment for the future success of Kenyan football.
